What We Explored in Vermont
The World’s Tallest File Cabinet
A quirky landmark that instantly sparks curiosity! It’s a quick stop, full of fun photo opportunities and lots of stickers from past visitors. We didn’t bring one of our own, but we signed someone else’s to leave a tiny mark of our adventure.
Shelburne Farms
This was an instant favorite. Shelburne Farms is free to enter (donations welcome) and offers open fields, farm animals, and peaceful walking paths. Kids can pet and feed animals, explore at their own pace, and enjoy wide, quiet spaces that work beautifully for sensory-friendly travel days.
Echo Leahy Center
If your child loves hands-on experiences, this museum is a must. The exhibits are interactive, structured, and intentionally designed to encourage exploration through water play, movement, and tactile learning. It’s one of the calmest science centers we’ve ever visited, making it an excellent option for autistic children who thrive with sensory-rich learning.
Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory
It wouldn’t be a Vermont trip without this stop! Beyond being delicious, Ben & Jerry’s has a long history of supporting diversity, inclusion, and social good — something we deeply appreciate. The tour is fun, informative, and ends exactly how a family-friendly outing should: with ice cream.
