Exploring Frankfurt, Germany with Family
Frankfurt, Germany, is a city full of history, culture, and charm. From scenic rides around town to medieval squares and authentic German food, our family trip was both memorable and meaningful.
Getting There
We flew into Frankfurt on TAP Air Portugal from Lisbon. While the flight was fine overall, it came with a few quirks, such as not being allowed to use blankets during takeoff and landing.
Our arrival was a little rocky because our son’s stroller was misplaced during the flight. As any parent knows, having a stroller on hand makes exploring a new city with a toddler so much easier. I filed a lost property claim and arranged our private transportation, which I had pre-booked through Expedia for round-trip service to and from the airport.
Thankfully, later that evening, the airline contacted us to say the stroller had been found and delivered to our hotel. A huge relief!
Where We Stayed
We checked into the Hilton Frankfurt City Centre, less than 20 minutes from the airport. This full-service hotel made our stay very comfortable.
We booked a one-bedroom suite, which came with:
-
Complimentary drinks and snacks in the fridge
-
A spacious living area with large windows and scenic views
-
Access to a convenient breakfast lounge each morning
After long days of exploring, we often opted for room service dinners instead of dining out. With a cranky toddler in tow, this was the perfect solution.
Exploring Frankfurt
Römerberg Square
One of Frankfurt’s most famous attractions is the Römerberg, the city’s historic square. Surrounded by picturesque medieval houses, a church, and historic buildings, it feels like stepping back in time.
The highlight for our son was a street performer making bubbles, simple fun that drew in all the kids nearby. Watching children laugh and chase bubbles against such a beautiful backdrop made the visit even more special.
Food & Dining
Germany is famous for its bratwurst sausages, and tasting one in Frankfurt was a must. The flavor was authentic and delicious, and even our picky eater enjoyed it!
Between local restaurants, snacks in the square, and our hotel meals, we never ran out of options for good food.
Special Moments
In addition to sightseeing, this trip had an extra layer of meaning. We were able to visit a family member serving in the military near Frankfurt. Sharing this experience with loved ones made the trip even more memorable.
Final Thoughts
Frankfurt was the perfect mix of history, culture, and convenience. With easy transportation options like Uber and taxis, a family-friendly hotel, and incredible food, it was an easy city to explore with kids.
From the medieval charm of Römerberg to cozy evenings with room service, this trip left us with lasting memories and a strong desire to return.
